Terrified shoppers flee after man stabbed in the back in shopping centre

A man was stabbed in front of shocked shoppers in broad daylight in a brutal attack this afternoon. Metropolitan Police officers were summoned to The Brewery shopping and leisure centre in Romford at 12.53pm today following reports of a man being injured.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered the victim, who they believe was stabbed inside the stairwell at The Brewery. Witnesses present reported seeing a man with a knife injury to the back, and police confirmed he was transported to an East London hospital. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police stated: ‘Enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate the suspect. A crime scene is in place.’

Video footage uploaded on X (formerly known as Twitter) depicts crowds outside the shopping and leisure centre in Romford, with security guards stationed at the entrance.

According to one Facebook user, there was ‘blood on the floor’ and they mentioned being evacuated from Toby Carvery. Another X user mentioned that the ‘place was just being evacuated’ as they exited the Vue cinema. Yet another individual remarked that the area is ‘all blocked off’, revealing they’ve ‘just been stuck in Romford after a stabbing’.

Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has footage of it to contact them on 101, quoting 3260/20FEB. They added: ‘To remain 100% anonymous, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit crimestoppers-uk.org.’
