BREAKING: Police declare MAJOR incident in Cumbria

A major incident has been declared in Cumbria, as heavy snowfall continues to disrupt the local road network, according to the county’s police force.

A multi-agency response is underway in the region, with reports of numerous vehicles stuck in traffic in the South Lakes area, particularly in Bowness and Grizedale, due to snow. Authorities have advised drivers to travel only if essential, given the anticipated low temperatures, ice, and snow persisting until the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Superintendent Andy Wilkinson emphasized the urgency of clearing roads to facilitate movement for those affected and urged people to reconsider travel plans in light of challenging road conditions. An amber warning for snow covers extensive areas of south and west Cumbria until midnight, with an additional yellow weather warning for snow and ice across most of the county until midnight.

Another yellow weather warning will be in effect from midnight until 11 am tomorrow morning.
