Two actors have sustained serious injuries after falling from a balcony during a production of Romeo and Juliet in Hungary.
Júlia Szász, 28, who played Juliet, and Otto Lajos Horváth, 60, portraying her father, Lord Capulet, are in a serious but stable condition in the hospital following Friday’s incident.
Paramedics attended to the actor and actress after they fell from a height behind the scenery during the second act of the performance in the capital, Budapest.
The injuries were severe enough to necessitate surgery for both Szász and Horváth, although the exact details were not disclosed.
On Monday morning, National Theatre director Attila Vidnyánszky submitted his resignation, “acknowledging his responsibility… as a result of the accident.”
