Prince William has come under fire after condemning the racist abuse directed at English players – with royal fans asking why he didn’t publicly defend Meghan Markle.
Following England’s heartbreaking defeat to Italy, Marcus Rashford, Jordan Sancho and Bukayo Saka were subjected to vile racist taunts.
The Duke of Cambridge said he was “sickened” by the comments and called for those responsible to be “held accountable”.
However, other social media users were unmoved by the statement.
One Twitter user responded: “You have the ability to condemn racism – not just in soccer – but when it’s directed at your own family members.
“Please use that power. It would speak volumes.”
Another added: “Now one for your sister-in-law. We’ll wait…”
A third simply said: “Good. Now do that for Meghan Markle.”
However, others praised William for his statement and leapt to the duke’s defence.
One posted: “You are the most exemplary family I know. Keep on doing everything right.”
