Dramatic footage has captured the incredible moment when two men, clutching a sinking life raft in the middle of the ocean, were rescued and brought to safety following a light plane crash off the Queensland coast.
Emergency services swiftly responded to the incident after a Cessna light aircraft crashed into the ocean near the Barwon Banks reef off Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast around 9 am last Friday.
LifeFlight has subsequently released footage of the remarkable rescue.
The helicopter crew initially spotted the Cessna’s tail in the ocean before discovering two men, both in their 50s, clinging to a small life raft.
One man was inside the sinking raft, while the other desperately clung to the edge.
The men gave a thumbs up to the LifeFlight crew to indicate they were okay as the rescue basket was winched down to bring the pair up into the helicopter one at a time.
