Man found dead after van ‘PLUNGED from CLIFFS’ near fishing village

A man has been found dead in a van which is said to have plunged from a cliff at a beauty spot.

The wrecked vehicle was spotted at the bottom of the cliffs near the fishing village of Staithes, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, today.

Police were called to the scene at around 7.15am this morning and discovered the driver, a local man, dead inside the van.

A spokesman for Cleveland Police said: “Police and Coastguard colleagues attended an incident whereby a vehicle was found at the base of cliffs in Cowbar around 7.15am on Wednesday 9 December.

“Sadly, the driver, a local man, was found dead in the vehicle.

“The man has not yet been formally identified, however, his family have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this extremely difficult time.
