A man has passed away after being rescued from a canal in the city centre.
Emergency services were swiftly dispatched to the Worcester and Birmingham Canal during the early hours of the morning following reports of a man in the water. Officers successfully retrieved him from the canal onto a towpath, where paramedics made valiant efforts to resuscitate him. Regrettably, he was pronounced dead at the scene shortly thereafter.
The police have confirmed that the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service dispatched two ambulances, paramedics, the MERIT trauma doctor, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) at approximately 4:46 am.
A spokesperson stated: “Upon arrival, the crews discovered a single patient, a man, who had been pulled from the water by police colleagues and was in a critical condition.
“The ambulance staff promptly commenced advanced life support. “However, despite their utmost efforts, it became evident that nothing could be done to save the man, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.”
