Michael Jayston, the star of Only Fools and Horses, has passed away at the age of 88 after a ‘short illness’.
Renowned for portraying the Valeyard in all fourteen episodes of Doctor Who, he played a crucial role as the manifestation of the Doctor’s dark side. Jayston also graced screens in popular shows like EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and more.
The actor’s family announced the news through his agent, M&M Famous Faces, stating: “It is with great sadness that I have been asked by his family to share the news; Michael Jayston sadly passed away this morning after a short illness. Those who knew Michael will know he was full of love, laughs, and happiness. He adored meeting his fans all over the world.
“His family and friends would appreciate privacy at this time.” Michael is particularly remembered for his role as the father of Rachel Turner in the BBC sitcom episode where Derek Edward ‘Del Boy’ Trotter and Rodney Trotter get their big break at an auction.
