Despicable: Gunman shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ before he beheads teacher in Paris

A gunman has beheaded a man in the French capital Paris while shouting “Allahu Akbar”, or “God is Great”, reports have said.

The shocking attack took place in the suburb of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine before the attacker was later shot by police in the neighbouring town of Eragny.

Reports say police chased the alleged gunman after the unidentified person threatened officers with a weapon.

An investigating source said police were called to the Parisian suburb 25 miles from the city centre on Friday afternoon.

“The body of a decapitated man was found at around 5.30pm [4.30pm UK time] in the afternoon,” they said.

“When police arrived, the person thought to be responsible was still present and threatened them with his weapons.”

Reports say the unidentified killer then fled to the nearby town of Eragny-Sur-Oise, some two miles away, where they refused to surrender.

French President Emmanuel Macron is to visit Conflans-Sainte-Honorine later on Friday, it has been reported.

A Twitter account, believed to belong to the killer, is said to have shared a picture of the teacher’s decapitated head on Friday.

The account has since been suspended.

MailOnline reports the attack was motivated by cartoons of the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

Le Parisien reports that the victim was a teacher and his killer was a parent of one of his students.

The terrorist is alleged to have responded furiously after his child was shown a cartoon of the prophet Muhammad by the teacher.

This took place during a discussion at school about freedom of expression.

“He was waving a gun by this time and further threatened officers,” a source said.

“This is when he was shot dead by police. Around 10 shots were heard.”

Police are viewing the attacker as a “suspected terrorist”, according to reports.

The man was shot dead by police while wearing a bomb vest outside a school.

It is the latest in a wave of terrorist attacks across France, often carried out by ISIS or Al-Qaeda supporters armed with knives.

Last month a terrorism enquiry was launched in Paris after two news agency staff were stabbed outside the former offices of Charlie Hebdo, where staff members were slaughtered in 2015 following the publication of cartoons mocking the prophet Muhammad.
