Britain hotter than Ibiza as 26C scorcher to blast UK for a week

Parts of Britain will be hotter than Ibiza this weekend as thunderstorms make way for temperatures of up to 26C.

The heat will be a welcome relief after Friday saw the mercury drop to as low as 9C in the south-west of England after a glorious Bank Holiday saw some areas basking in 29C heat.

The Met Office said today will be “rather cloudy in the west and north, with showers, some heavy by afternoon” but elsewhere there will be warm sunny spells “although low cloud across the southeast may take until afternoon to break”.

Weatherman Aidan McGivern said the south-east of England and East Anglia could see temperatures hit 26 degrees as a warm front from the Azores hits Britain, hotter than Ibiza, according to the Sun.

Spanish hotspot Barcelona is also only forecast to be 23C on Saturday and 24C on Sunday – great news for Brits facing a summer of uncertainty over jetting abroad.

Bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds to 1-2 (from 6-4) on 30C or higher being recorded in the UK before the end of the weekend.

The firm is offering 4-5 this month ends as the hottest June on record, while it is 4-6 this summer is the hottest ever in the UK.
