Boy, 17, takes his own life just days after friend’s horror lift fall death

A 17-year-old boy has tragically taken his own life just days after his close friend died in a lift fall.

Callum Cunningham, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, died on Monday, May 31, leaving his friends and family devastated.

His death comes just days after one of his close friends, Clayton Bottomley, 17, died along with his dad David, 53, following a lift fall at a construction site, according to Leeds Live.

The father and son were working at the Unity Building in Liverpool city centre on May 19 when an external construction lift collapsed as they were using it.

Clayton tragically passed away in hospital just days after his dad.

The Health and Safety Executive have launched an investigation into the incident.

Now, the community is being rocked by Callum’s death too.

One of Callum’s best friends, Taylor Hardwick, 18, who has set up a fundraising page in his memory, said of the teenager: “He always had a smile on his face and made everyone else smile too.”
