Tremors actor Fred Ward has died aged 79.
The star, who also appeared in The Right Stuff and Escape From Alcatraz, died on May 8.
His publicist, Ron Hofmann, confirmed the news in a statement, which read: ‘I am sad to announce the passing of acclaimed actor Fred Ward, who passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2022, at age 79.’
‘It was Fred Ward’s wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of donations to the Boston University Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Center.’
Hofmann added that he spent his final years growing his passion for painting.
Ward’s cause of death has not been shared.
The San Diego-born star spent three years in the US Air Force before turning to a Hollywood career, and studied acting in New York, before making the move to Italy where he dubbed Italian films.
He made his debut in series The Age of the Medici, before appearing on the big screen in Hearts of the West, in 1975.
In 1979, he took on one of his most notable roles, as John Anglin in Escape From Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood, Patrick McGoohan and Larry Hankin.
