An actress has explained why she decided to stay with her husband after he was convicted of possessing indecent images of children.
Maddie Corman, 49, agonised over what to do and understands many people will not agree with her decision – but she’s still proud of her marriage.
Her TV director husband Jason ‘Jace’ Alexander, 54, who worked on Law & Order, was convicted of two counts relating to possessing and sharing illegal images of children.
He was sentenced to 10 years probation and had to register as a sex offender.
But his wife Maddie decided to stay with him for the sake of their three children.
Speaking to the Times , she said: “I had no interest in having my kids grow up without a parent as long as he was willing to get help and be the best person he could.
“I’m aware that decision does not sit well with some people. I wish I could tell you that that doesn’t upset me, but it does. I don’t like having to defend that choice. And I don’t love having my kids potentially read that.
That’s really, really painful for me and really not something I ever anticipated. I was proud to be married to who I’m married to. And I’m still proud to be married to him. I am.”
Maddie discovered the crimes when her 16-year-old daughter called her screaming the police were at the house.
At first she thought it was just a terrible mistake.
Since his conviction Alexander has been through rehab and the family have had therapy and group meetings to discuss what’s happened.
She says she has considered leaving him but she has never worried about the safety of their children.
She has written a one-woman play about the awful time, called Accidentally Brave, which she now performs eight times a week in New York.
In it she described the moment she found out and how she came to terms with the horrifying night.
