URGENT RECALL Car seat sold by Mothercare recalled over fears its unsafe

PARENTS should check if they’ve recently bought a BabyStyle car seat from Mothercare as one of the brand’s bases for chairs has been recalled over safety fears.

Manufacturer BabyStyle has advised customers to immediately stop using its “Oyster Carapace Infant car seat” in combination with its “Oyster DuoFix i-Size base”.

It has also recalled the base saying shoppers should return it to the shop they bought it from for a full refund or exchange.

BabyStyle says the £100 base was sold at Mothercare and other independent retailers between December 2018 and April 2019.

It follows a Which? investigation that saw the seat detach from its base and hurl forward in a test crash.

You can still use the £99 chair in cars without the base by strapping it in with a seat-belt.

But BabyStyle says customers can return the Oyster Carapace car seat if they don’t want to use it without the base.

If you bought the car seat on its own though, you won’t be able to get a refund.

BabyStyle says it is writing to and emailing affected customers.

It adds that concerned customers can contact Mothercare by emailing [email protected] or calling 0344 875 5122.

Alternatively, you can contact BabyStyle directly on 01509 816444.

In a statement BabyStyle said: “We have taken this action for the simple reason that we care very much about every parent and BabyStyle product owner.

“And while we know that our Oyster Carapace Infant car seat meets the UK safety standard by passing all official UK safety tests, we know that your peace of mind at this very important stage of life is of paramount importance.”
