Pals of Meghan Markle claim Archie Windsor’s name was picked in reference to her pet cat, and a US comic she used to collect.
The future Duchess of Sussex reportedly used to tell friends about her beloved moggie Archie, who ended up becoming fat after being fed too many frozen grapes.
She once shared a video of herself stroking Archie while playing with her other cats.
He is believed to have died while Meghan was away at university in Illinois
Archie is also believed to refer to the title character of US comic Archie, which she collected with her dad Thomas Markle, 74.
Ginger-haired teen Archie Andrews was believed to be an “obsession” of the young Meghan.
His comics were later adapted into the teen TV series Riverdale.
The 37-year-old Meghan gave birth to her and Prince Harry’s first-born child Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor on Monday morning.
It’s no surprise Meghan named her new baby Archie,” a former close pal told The Sun on Thursday.
“She loved that cat.”
Referring to the comics, the friend speculated the name choice was “a little nod” to her estranged dad.
Meghan hasn’t seen her dad since the pair had a falling out before last year’s Royal Wedding.
This may be a way to reach out to her dad, even after all that’s happened,” the former friend added.
Earlier this week, the first pictures of Prince Harry’s son meeting the Queen and Prince Philip were released.
