A MAN suffocated his girlfriend’s baby to death because it spat milk on him.
Dakota King, 19, from Bloomington, Indiana, US, smothered the two-month-old baby with a pillow to stop it crying after the tot spat milk on him, police believe.
The 19-year-old was arrested after the baby was found in very poor health with injuries on its face at Health Bloomington Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.
The infant died before officers arrived.
Family members of the baby told police officers that King had previously squeezed the baby and used his hands to shove the baby face-down in its cradle to stop its crying.
Officers searched the 19-year-old’s home, where he lived with the infant, and found stains which appeared to be blood in the baby’s bassinet.
The stains are believed to be in relation to the injuries on the tot’s face.
Local reports say that when interviewed by police, King admitted that the baby had spit up milk on him earlier in the day – causing his anger.
In response to the child’s innocent act, the man placed the baby face-down in the cradle and put his hands over the back of the baby’s head – causing the tot to cry.
It is believed that he then pressed the baby’s head into a pillow until the crying stopped.
According to the police, King left the baby in the cradle until the child’s mum came home from work later that day.
The infant didn’t appear to be breathing.
Results of an autopsy, which was completed on Wednesday, are still pending.
King remains in custody, where the State of Indiana is seeking life in prison without parole, according to local reports.
