Six-Year-Old Spends £1,600 On Fortnite Purchases On His Uncle’s PlayStation Account

A six-year-old boy ran up a huge bill of around £1,600 on his uncle’s PlayStation account while playing Fortnite.

Twenty-seven-year-old Asad Murad was shocked to discover that the money he had saved up to buy a new house was gone after his nephew, Alex, made a selection of very expensive in-game purchases while using his PlayStation 4.

He had allowed the youngster to use his Sony account after the child was gifted a new console for his birthday. However, that came with the strict warning that he was not allowed to buy anything on it.

Despite that, the joiner from Stockport awoke one morning to discover that his bank account had been depleted.

Upon checking his statement he realised to his horror that all of the purchases were collected by ‘Sony PlayStation’.

In total, around 15 purchases were made for extras that vary between £7.99 and £79.99 in cost.

Murad then told the bank and Sony about his predicament, but neither will give him his money back.

He told the Manchester Evening News: “I woke up on Sunday and looked at my bank account.

“I am saving for a house and needed to move a few bills around and noticed there was £1,600 missing.

“I looked into it and it said ‘Sony PlayStation’ on my internet banking. There had been 10 to 15 transactions all on the same day.

“It said it was for the game Fortnite which I know my nephew plays, but he is six and so does not have a clue about money.”

He got a PlayStation for Christmas and I signed in and gave him some games to play. I told him not to buy anything, but he obviously got excited.

“That money was for a house I had been saving up for. Now I’m absolutely skint.”

As you would, Murad called up his bank who informed him that they had tried to make contact when they noticed the ‘unusual activity’ taking place on his account.

He added: “It’s so much money to go in one day, it’s just ridiculous.

“That’s four months of savings gone in one day.”

In an email, Sony told him: “The transactions in question were made on a console with a different serial number from the one provided by you, but our investigations do not indicate that the account has been compromised as a result of internet fraud.

“The transactions are not eligible for a refund under the criteria outlined in the PlayStation Store cancellation policy and therefore we cannot offer a refund in this case.

“We do require the SEN account holder to be responsible for all activity on their account.”
