Sheridan Smith says she won’t return for the Gavin & Stacey Christmas special

SHERIDAN Smith has revealed she will not be part of the Gavin and Stacey Christmas special.

The 37-year-old actress played Ruth “Rudi” Smith, the sister of James Corden’s character Smithy, in the BBC sitcom.

But after weeks of speculation, Sheridan confirmed that she would not be returning for the upcoming festive episode.

Asked if she would be reprising her role when she appeared on BBC Radio 2’s The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show today, she said: “I wish. No, I’m not going to be in it, I think.”

While it’s not known why Sheridan will not appear, the Cilla star was previously in a relationship with writer James Corden – who once called her “the love of my life”.

When the Cleaning Up star received an OBE for her services to drama in 2015, she admitted Prince William, who presented her with the gong, told her he was a huge Gavin and Stacey fan.

The comedy came to an end in 2010 after three years on screen and fans’ prayers were finally answered when James announced last month that it is getting a one-off reboot.

Co-creator Ruth Jones, who plays Nessa, is on board and Corden told the Sunday Times: “We owed it to the characters.
