Piers Morgan has bizarrely branded David Beckham’s decision to kiss his daughter Harper on the lips “creepy” and “weird” after the ex-footballer shared a video of his family on holiday.
The Good Morning Britain host slated Becks’ sweet family footage showing him giving seven-year-old Harper an affectionate peck on the mouth as they shared a boat trip in Florida’s Everglades.
Ranting on today’s GMB, Piers claimed David’s display of love wasn’t normal – but co-host Susanna Reid came to the footie star’s defence by confirming she too kisses her three children on the lips.
So he’s posted this picture, yeah it’s very sweet,” Piers moaned.
“[But] why would a father kiss his daughter on the lips? Don’t get it – creepy. Weird. No-one does that. Who does that? Then you post that for the world – you posted that for the world, why?”
Susanna lept in, telling Piers: “Aww, they love each other. Well the interesting thing is he came in for a lot of criticism when he posted a video like that a couple of years ago and he’s obviously just doubled down and thought, ‘well that’s what I do’.”
But Piers wasn’t budging, telling the camera: “Weird, Weird, weird, it’s just weird.”
It’s what I do,” Susanna said, firmly.
Piers then claimed the best way for Becks to show affection to his children is a “firm handshake” for his sons Brooklyn, Romeo and Cruz, and a peck on the cheek for Harper.
David has previously called out cruel trolls who said it was weird to kiss children on the lips
In a Facebook Live video in 2017 he defiantly said: “I kiss all my kids on the lips. Brooklyn, maybe not. Brooklyn’s 18, he might find that a little bit strange.
“I’m very affectionate with the kids. It’s how I was brought up and Victoria, and it’s how we are with our children.”
He sweetly added: “We want to show our kids love and we protect them, look after them, and support them, and you know, we’re very affectionate with them.”
