Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan was reeling after Ari Dennis, who identifies as non-binary, made the accusation
Piers Morgan was left speechless on today’s Good Morning Britain after being labelled a “childist”.
The outspoken GMB presenter, who usually can’t stop talking, was reeling after the bizarre accusation.
Piers got into a heated debate with an American parent raising their gender-neutral child as a ‘theyby’.
Ari Dennis, 30, who identifies as non-binary, explained that one-year-old Sparrow will discover their gender later on in life.
There are three adults in the family raising Sparrow and eight-year-old Hazel, who was allowed to choose their own name as a toddler.
Ari said: “All children at this age are developmentally unable to understand gender yet. It’s not that the child is non-binary. The child doesn’t have any gender yet. Obviously they have anatomy.”
Piers claimed it was “utterly exhausting” keeping up with the dynamic.
He said he had no problem with Ari but had an issue with the adults in the home “driving” their beliefs on the children.
Piers admitted as a “grammatical purist” he did not understand why the family used the plural pronoun ‘they’.
Finally losing his rag, Piers said: “Ari, I’m sorry to be the stick in the mud here. A two year-old kid hasn’t got scooby doo about this stuff.
“The idea that you as a parent would even countenance the idea that a two-year-old child has any ability to form any is utterly ridiculous and actually damaging to that child.”
Piers ranted: “A parents’ job is to also take responsible decision on behalf of their kids. To grow and nurture them.
“It seems you’re taking all responsibility from you as a parent and putting it on the heads of these tiny kids. It’s all down to them making these enormous life-changing decisions. I say that is an abdication of your parental responsiblities.”
Ari clarified that they do intervene in their children’s lives and add structure.
Fuming Piers replied: “Allowing a three-year-old child to decide their name on a whim. Everyone with kids is going ‘what?’. Kids will come up with all sort of nonsense at that age.”
Ari then accused Piers of being a ‘childist’, someone who believes kids can’t make decisions, which confused the riled presenter.
The parent said: “What you’re expressing is a bit of childism, which is assuming that someone has to be a legal adult to have the capacity to know themselves.”
After the interview, stunned Piers struggled to find any words.
He said: “Not much leaves me speechless. That interview has left me completely and utterly speechless.”
Good Morning Britain viewers took to Twitter after watching the divisive debate.
One viewer said: “@piersmorgan is a ‘childist’ #GMB stop the world, I want to get off after that interview”
Another added: “Absolutely agree with piers on this gender nonsense with kids. Giving a child a name doesn’t make you wrong or a “ childist” (whatever a childist IS!)”
However, a third said: “Piers Morgan got absolutely owned by that lady on gender fluidity especially as the American lady kept on saying that Susanna Reed was asking good question and implying Morgan wasn’t asking good question and then the magnificent ‘Childism’ or ‘childist’ attack”
