Nurse ‘pulls baby’s head off during difficult birth

A nurse delivering a baby pulled its head off leaving it trapped inside the womb while holding the torso in his hands, it is reported.

The nurse pulled too hard during a difficult birth and ended up splitting the baby in two, horror reports in India claim.

He then hid the body of the newborn while sending the mum to another hospital saying there had been a problem and she needed further treatment, it is claimed.

The nurse and a colleague allegedly deposited the lower part of the foetus in the hospital’s mortuary.

But doctors at another hospital later found the foetus’ head still in the womb, according to reports.

The Hindustan Times said the nurse in the first hospital had ‘pulled at a foetus so hard while attempting to deliver the baby that it broke into two parts’.

Reports said the dad claimed staff at the hospital didn’t inform him about the horrific birth said to have happened on January 6

While medics in the second hospital, the Ummed Hospital in Jodhpur, were carrying out an operation to remove what they thought would be the placenta, they found the head, it is reported.

Doctors there reportedly informed the woman’s relatives and the family members about what they’d discovered.

The mother is now believed to be fighting for her life in hospital.

A criminal case has been registered against the two male nurses allegedly involved but police are yet to arrest them.

The case has been described as a ‘rare’ one and the husband is thought to have lodged a complaint.

He has accused the nurses who had been involved in the delivery of being drunk.

“When questioned, the hospital staffers handed over the lower part of the foetus to us,” he claimed.

No arrest has been made so far, he added.
