A mother threw her five-year-old son off a 20th floor balcony before jumping to her own death, according to reports.
Solange Virginia Matos, 37, was found in the bushes on the sixth floor and was pronounced dead at the scene in Miami.
Her son Luciano was found by police unresponsive on the terrace of the building near a pool at the high rise complex on Monday night.
He was given CPR and rushed to hospital in a critical condition but was sadly pronounced dead.
Family members claimed Matos had never showed any warning signs that she or her little boy were in danger.
Police are reportedly investigating the incident as a murder-suicide .
Witnesses phoned the emergency services and neighbours have expressed their shock that a mum could allegedly murder her own son.
Patricia Lopez, who lives in the building, told WSVN : “I waited until this morning, saw the news, and I said, ‘Oh, my God.’
“It’s a very sad story for the family and also the people that live here. It’s a great building.”
She was shocked that the incident had happened in her block and said there are rarely any problems there.
Roberto Junior added: “I was a bit surprised. Sad.”
Maria Elias, who also lives in the building told NBC Miami : “It’s horrible, so sad.
“You think the worst, especially cause you’re a mom.”
