Mum killed and baby fighting for life after car in collision with pram

The baby is only eight months old, and suffered life threatening injuries

A mum in her 20s has been killed and her baby is fighting for life after a car was in collision with a pram in London on Sunday night.

Police were called to Croydon Road, Penge in south London, at around 8pm after reports of a road traffic collision.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended.

A car was found to have been involved in a collision with a mother and a baby in a pram.

Despite the efforts of officers and paramedics, the mother, believed to be in her 20s, was declared dead at the scene.

The baby, believed to be eight months old, has been taken to hospital.

His injuries have been assessed as life-threatening.

Road closures have been put in place. The driver of the car, who stopped at the scene, has been taken to hospital. His injuries are non life-threatening.

He has not been arrested and is currently assisting police with their enquiries.

At this early stage officers are working to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
