Mum, 24, ‘trapped son, 7, in sweltering house with doors nailed shut with no food or water’

A MUM left her seven-year-old son in a sweltering Miami house with its door nailed shut and no food or water inside, police say.

Claudia Dinora Maldonado-Vasquez, 24, is accused of abandoning the boy in the house, which had no air-conditioning or open windows.

Weather reports say the temperature was a scorching 28C at the time.

A neighbour contacted police after hearing the child’s screams, it’s reported.

When officers arrived at the property on Tuesday morning they saw the distraught youngster through a barred window.

Empty beer bottles and cigarette butts were strewn around the home, according to an arrest report.

The report said: “The child told the unit that he did not want to be alone.

“The unit then observed bars around the windows and nails at the top of the door that would not allow the door to be opened from the inside. The house…had empty beer bottles and cigarette butts on the floor.

The heat was terrible. There was no ventilation and the door had been nailed shut.

“There was no telephone, no drinking water and no food to eat…expired milk, the refrigerator had a rotten smell.”

After rescuing the boy, officers tried to contact his mother, who ignored their calls, it’s claimed.

When they eventually tracked her down, she tried to claim she had left her son with a cousin.

Maldonado-Vasquez is said to have tested positive for cocaine, 7News Miami reported.

The boy is now being cared for by social services as Maldonado-Vasquez faces charges of child neglect with no great bodily harm.

She is being held in jail in lieu of bond.
