A missing mother of twins who survived being born 10 weeks premature has been found dead after she failed to return home from a walk.
Felicity Shadbolt, 36, mysteriously disappeared on Sunday after leaving her home at 11.30am. She’d sent a text at 12.50pm saying she’d be ‘home in 20 minutes’, but sadly she never made it.
The married mum, from Tom Price, Australia, was going for a walk on Mount Nameless, near Karijini National Park, said police, who launched a search in scorching temperatures nearing 40C when she didn’t return home.
Her phone had been ringing in the hours after she vanished but was later disconnected and going straight to voicemail.
Tragically, after a four day search, her body was found in scrubland near a local caravan park at about 7pm last night, Perth Now reports.
Police, who previously said Felicity had regularly gone walking in that area in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, are investigating her death.
Felicity’s twin girls, who battled to survive, will now have to grow up without a mother
Eight years ago, Felicity had become pregnant, one year after marrying husband Drew.
But when she was 26 weeks into the pregnancy, in May 2011, doctors told her one of her babies was too small to survive past the weekend.
The couple would not give up hope and their unborn baby kept fighting for the next month,
In a video once made for her ‘miracle twins’, Felicity – known to some as Flik – had said: “It was the hardest four weeks of our lives.
“Only a handful of people would know our daily amount of pain and tears as we prayed that we would get to keep both our babies.
“You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.”
Macie Willot and her sister Harper Reese entered the world at 30 weeks, and even though they were born prematurely, they had no long-term health issues.
Felicity reportedly had their names tattooed on her forearm with the slogan ‘miracles happen to ones that believe’.
Heartbreaking tributes to Felicity have been paid by friends on social media.
Shae McHarry wrote: “RIP Flik, such sad news to wake up too this morning. Thinking of Drew and the girls and all the family at this sad time.”
Jodie Webster said her thoughts were with Felicity’s husband Drew, their twin daughters and their families.
She wrote: “RIP Flik Shadbolt, fly high gorgeous lady.”
