A MISSING Ayrshire man has sparked a desperate police appeal after vanishing yesterday.
William Sharpe, 52, was last seen by a neighbour leaving his home in Lawthorne, Irvine, on a bicycle at around 3pm.
Officers say they are “concerned for his safety” as they continue their efforts to trace him.
It comes as his distraught wife begged locals to search their gardens.
Posting on Facebook, Karen Sharpe said: Can’t believe I’m having to do this but could everyone please look out for my husband he’s gone missing and he’s not in a good place at the moment.
“Please share to get him home safe. Please look in your gardens before going to work he must have took shelter somewhere in the Irvine area.”
There have since been unconfirmed CCTV sightings of a man matching his description at around 8.30pm near to Irvine train station.
William is described as white, 5ft 10in in height and of slim build with short dark greying hair.
When he was last seen he was wearing a blue hooded top, blue trousers, khaki coloured trainers and carrying a black rucksack.
Inspector Stewart Slaven of Irvine Police Office said: “Searches and enquiries are continuing to trace William.
We are concerned for his safety and wellbeing as he has not been missing before and it is totally out of character for him not to keep in contact with his family and friends, so we want to find him as soon as possible.”
Anyone with information on William’s whereabouts should contact Irvine Police Office through 101 quoting reference number 3634 of 18th April.
