Met Office issues weather warning for heavy rain across London and southern England

A yellow warning has been issued for thunderstorms bringing heavy rain across a large part of southern England and Wales.

Forecasters are warning of sudden flooding of homes and disruption to train and bus services as the rain arrives later today.

The alert is in place from 2pm today until 11pm and may even lead to power supply issues, the Met Office warned.

The warning is in place for most of west London, stretching up towards Peterborough, across to Birmingham and Cardiff, down towards Exeter and back across the south coast to Brighton.

Rainfall radars show there are already large parts of the region currently experiencing heavy downpours.

However, some places can expect more than an inch of rain to fall in an hour throughout the day.
