Maniac deliberately drives car into girl, 11, as she plays on scooter before making horrific remark

A DRIVER deliberately swerved to hit an 11-year-old girl and told her as she lay injured on the ground: “We all have to die some time”, cops say.

Steven Becky, 19, is said to have intentionally targeted the girl as she walked with her electric scooter through a residential neighbourhood near Salt Lake City, US.

The car, a Volkswagen Jetta, hit a landscape boulder and flipped.

Becky then ran up to the girl as she lay on a nearby front lawn and told her “We all have to die some time,” according to a witness cited in court documents.

After the collision, Becky attempted to flee, but was restrained by a witness until police arrived, Fox News reported.

He later told investigators he had hit the girl “because she was white”, and admitted to having been on Xanax, marijuana, LSD and psychedelic mushrooms at the time of the crash.

“This is not what I would describe as veered into the gal or drifted into the gal,” Police Chief John Eining told reporters, according to Deseret News.

“My description would be turned into the gal.”

Officers at the scene said Becky had been “uncooperative, aggressive, and non-sympathetic toward the child victim”, according to a report released by the Draper Police Department on Saturday.

The child, who has not been named, suffered a serious head injury and a fractured hip.

Chief Eining said that she had been wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, and that it had probably stopped her from suffering more serious injuries.

We believe that probably had something to do with the condition she’s in now,” he said.

After the crash, Becky was taken to hospital and then Utah County Jail, where he was booked on charges of attempted criminal homicide and driving under the influence with serious bodily injury.
