Man Who Was Told He Couldn’t Give Birth Welcomes New Baby Boy

I’ve always said it’s a damn good job that women give birth to children rather than men. There’s no way we could handle it; I hit the roof when I stub my toe or get a splinter or drop my phone on my face in bed, how do you reckon I’d cope with blowing a lil’ baba outta’ me?

Terribly, which is why I’ll never do it. Even if I could. Which I can’t. I don’t think.

All jokes aside, the miracle of life is both precious and sacred, which is why whenever a new jolt of contentiousness is introduced to this spinning piece of dirt we call Earth , it should be celebrated.

So bear that in mind here please.

I say this because a transgender man – Wyley Simpson, from Texas – has now given birth to a beautiful baby boy.

The 28-year-old found out he was with child despite taking testosterone therapy and being told by doctors that he could not fall pregnant during his transitioning period as he had stopped having periods.

It’s weird, innit? Some people try for ages to have a kid and can’t do it and then others have absolutely no intention of having kids and end up pregnant.

According to my parents I was a mistake. Honestly, my mum admitted that to me once while laughing. What do you even say to that?

Where was I? Oh yeah, Wyley’s pregnancy apparently came as a surprise – understatement of the century – with him and his fiancé, Stephen Gaeth, 28, initially reluctant to dive into the deep, murky waters of fatherhood.

However, they decided to proceed and now they have little Rowan, who was delivered through an emergency C-section in September 2018.

It’s a fairy-tale for 2019!

Wyley said:

“I was nervous. I was very emotional, I started crying. I didn’t know what to do,

I was already worried as this was my first pregnancy.

But I was also nervous because I had to deal with a lot of stigma behind me being a pregnant man.

Alongside receiving rude comments from other people, the pregnancy took a lot for me emotionally.

Having gone through the transitioning process since I was 21 years old, having a physical baby bump was something so feminine that it messed with my head.

But it was all worth it to have Rowan and to become a father – I wouldn’t have changed a thing.”

Wyley, who still has female reproductive organs, says that it was difficult at first because of all the hateful comments and judgement.

And after reading around this story I can see exactly what he means. Fair enough you might not agree with the parents’ lifestyle choices or whatever but at least the kid’s got a loving home.

Unless they’re both just actually really sh*t parents. But anyone can be one of those. Ask my mum.

Speaking on life with a new little on, Wyley said:

“Once my physical bump had disappeared and I was able to take my hormones again, I felt good about everything.

Myself and Stephan suddenly turned into a gay couple with a baby, as opposed to me being a pregnant man.

And Rowan is amazing, he made all of the mental and physical pain completely worth it.

Now myself and Stephan are just revelling in fatherhood and can’t wait to continue our journey as a family.”

Obviously the comments in this piece are going to go off and I’m interested to see what everyone’s take on it is.

I imagine there will be a fair bit of bigotry and statements of ‘oh, so a woman gave birth to a baby‘, but come on, guys, lets show a little warmth and send them our best wishes.

Wyley, Stephen, Rowan, on behalf of The Hook (I haven’t actually asked everyone in the office to see if they care) good luck to you.
