Many people give up alcohol for the 46 days of Lent, but one man decided to give up food entirely and only drink alcohol
Lent has always been seen as a time of fasting or giving something up.
The 46 day period runs from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday and can be a real challenge for those who decide to set aside their vices.
However one man has found the first week of Lent to be a breeze, despite giving up all food.
Del Hall, from Cincinnati, Ohio made the shocking decision to forgo eating altogether and instead only consume beer, having between two and five beers a day.
Hall, who works at Fifty West Brewing Company and is an army veteran, says his plan was inspired by the fasting rituals of 18th century Bavarian monks.
And after taking on the challenge for a few days, he claims to have lost over a stone, but stresses that this isn’t a new kind of “diet” people should try.
Speaking on his YouTube Channel, he said: “I’m having anywhere from two to five beers a day, I’m not necessarily drinking in the morning, I’m not a breakfast person, so I get up, I have some water and I have a black coffee, no sweetener, no dairy in it, just black coffee.
“I have my first beer sometime in the afternoon and then I might have one when I’m feeling peckish.
The majority of the beers I’m drinking are at home, so when I get home at night I might have say two to three beers here at the house and that’s pretty much a typical day.”
Hall went on to explain that he “likes” fasting, so isn’t finding Lent too big of a deal.
Despite this, he admitted that the first few days were “pretty rough” as the cravings (for Taco Bell) were intense.
“On Ash Wednesday, I only had one beer, then day two and day three were pretty rough, a lot of hunger,” he continued.
“I didn’t partake but the cravings were intense. Days four and five the hunger started to subside and day six and seven I really haven’t had any hunger.”
Hall is planning to drink a variety of ales during his ‘fast’ including a chocolate maple and toasted almond stout.
He claims he’s “feeling amazing” so far and that as well as losing weight, his sense of smell also seems to have improved.
