Horror as woman dies after car ploughs into Specsavers window

Emergency crews were called to Boston in Lincolnshire after a car struck a pedestrian

A woman who was struck by a car in front of Specsavers this afternoon has died, police confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the city centre of Boston, Lincolnshire shortly after 1.30pm today.

An eyewitness told Lincolnshire Live that they saw a car had crashed into the window of the Specsavers, and it appeared that someone was trapped under the vehicle.

A spokesman from the East Midlands Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 1.37pm on 1 July to Wide Bargate in Boston.

“The caller reported there had been a road traffic collision.

“We sent two crewed ambulances and a LIVES community first responder.”

Lincolnshire Police posted on Twitter: “Emergency services on scene at a serious RTC on Wide Bargate, Boston outside of Specsavers Opticians.

“The vehicle was being driven by a driver in her 80s.

“Please avoid the area while we deal with this incident.”

They confirmed that a woman in her 40s had suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital. She later died, the force said.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

An air ambulance and two fire engines are reported to have been sent to the scene.
