Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Steven Adler stabbed himself ‘by accident’ it’s been claimed after the rocker was taken to hospital to be treated for stomach wounds.
Police were called to the 54-year-old musician’s Los Angeles home on Thursday with reports that ‘someone had stabbed themselves’.
Steven was reportedly being treated for ‘non-threatening’ stab wounds to his stomach and now his rep has shed more light on the incident.
According to TMZ, Steven’s publicist said the stabbing was an accident and not an attempt to take his own life.
While the rep did not reveal what caused the incident, they reportedly described the injury as a ‘very minor, superficial wound’.
Steven performed last week in Biloxi, Mississippi and also with his new band Adler’s Appetite at Warehouse Live in Houston, Texas several days before that show.
According to his rep, the rocker will still go ahead with his scheduled performance at the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas on 12 July.
Steven is best known for being a member of Guns N’ Roses’ original line-up alongside Axl Rose, Slash, Duff McKagan and Izzy Stradlin, achieving worldwide success in the late 1980s.
However, his time with the iconic rock group came to an abrupt end in 1990, with his former bandmates blaming his drug use on his departure.
The drummer has been open about his personal battles and, in a 2011 interview with Rukus magazine, admitted that he attempted suicide twice.
Steven explained: ‘I was very miserable. Everything I’d worked my whole life for had been taken away from me. And it was the people I’d worked with that had turned on me. I didn’t know what to do.
‘From having hundreds of friends, to getting kicked out of the band by my best friend-and a guy who I was doing the drugs with! – it left me with no-one to turn to.
‘I was very sad and lonely. My wife left me, and I didn’t blame her. It’s hard to watch someone you love trying to kill themselves. That’s what I was doing.’
Steven’s rep also reportedly said the musician has been sober for several years.
