Footage of Gordon Ramsay appearing on the Tonight Show nine years ago quickly went viral as fans accused the A-list chef of “inappropriate” behaviour
Gordon Ramsay has come under fire after an old clip resurfaced where he made lewd comments and tapped actress Sofia Vergara ‘s leg during an interview.
Footage of the British chef appearing on the US Tonight Show hosted by Jay Leno in 2010 quickly went viral, as fans accused the A-list chef of “disgusting” and “inappropriate” behaviour towards the Colombian-American actress.
The clip makes for uncomfortable viewing when Gordon repeatedly cracked smutty innuendos about the way Sofia ate pizza, before tapping her on the leg to which she snaps “No touching!”
After Sofia arrives on the sofa and sits beside Gordon, she says: “I’m sorry I never scream like that in real life, only when acting.”
And Gordon replies: “Only in the bedroom.”
The comment draws disapproving boos and gasps as an awkward silence falls, before host Jay Leno then quips: “Well you would never know.”
Sofia then goes on to talk about her love for pizza as a picture of her eating a slice is flashed up on the screen.
The Modern Family star says she would happily eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner because she loves it so much.
Jay asks Gordon if he can cook pizza, to which he says yes, then turning to Sofia asks: “Have you had a whole wedge in your mouth at any one time?”
An irritated Sofia shrugs at the comment as Gordon continues to dig at her eating habits, asking if she had ever heard of a knife and fork.
“So you just shove it all in then?” he added.
Later Sofia takes a swipe at UK cuisine joking with Gordon that all Brits eat is fish and chips, as an outraged Gordon splutters “what” before then using the back of his hand to slap the top of Sofia’s thigh.
At the end of the clip, the visibly frustrated actress snaps: “This is my interview.”
Undeterred, Gordon mockingly slaps himself on the wrist before getting up and squeezing himself on to Sofia’s chair and leaning his body into hers.
“Sofia Vergara didn’t deserve to be treated like this. This is very very uncomfortable,’ shared one fan online.
In response, @Anomahleeh commented: “She straight up yelled “this guy does not respect me!” In Spanish. Her body language is more than indicative of her uncomfortableness towards his presence.”
@JBINAV agreed: “Gordon Ramsey’s actions can be described the same way he describes food: A disgusting festering mess.”
@tanyajoseph tweeted: “Nothing charming about Ramsey’s behaviour here, sexist and dare I say racist undertone to it.”
@Charlesjamares wrote: “She says “Don’t touch me”. You continued. No grey area here. Mr. Ramsey.”
@SoniaPlants commented: “That question was so inappropriate tf.”
Sofia has previously spoken about being objectified by men in the industry and said she is “fine” with it, explaining in a 2016 interview: ‘I’ve never understood why women get so offended [by being objectified].
‘I just don’t believe in all that drama, which is why I’ve made a whole joke out of it. I am secure enough not to take it all that seriously, and I like to laugh at myself.’
The controversy comes just days after Gordon and his wife of 23 years announced they were expecting their fifth child.
The couple are already parents to Megan, 21, Matilda, 17, and twins Jack and Holly, 19
