Man has been arrested while police say the young girl is in a “stable” condition after hiding injuries for five days
A five-year-old girl allegedly raped in a public toilet by a 35-year-old man hid the horrific ordeal from her father until he saw bite marks on her body, it has been reported.
The young girl, who is currently in a stable condition in hospital, went into the public toilets in Delhi at 2pm on February 6 when she was allegedly subjected to the horrific ordeal.
For five days, police said the child kept the incident to herself but the bite marks on her body made her father suspicious, reports Indian Express.
He phoned police and his daughter – said to be in “immense pain” – was taken for a medical examination.
A man who works as a sanitation worker in the public toilets has been arrested.
A police spokesman said the young girl was not accompanied by an adult into the toilets as she was “familiar with the place.
They added: “Investigation so far has revealed that the minor’s mother found out about the incident the day it happened but kept it to herself.
On Monday, the child’s father asked her what happened when he saw the marks on her body. That’s when she told him about the alleged rape in the toilet.”
DCW chief Swati Maliwal added: “I met the child and her parents today
Her body has bruises everywhere and she is in immense pain. We will soon begin inspecting public toilets in the city.”
The toilet complex comes under the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and they confirmed they are investigating their security arrangements.
Delhi Commission for Women Swati Maliwal took to Twitter to express her horror at the incident.
She said: “The child has suffered terribly and has bled a lot. On my way to the hospital to see her.”
