All of the jobless single mum’s children have now been placed in care after social services saw the conditions inside the flat the youngster fell from
A two-year-old girl is fighting for her life after plummeting 60ft from the sixth floor of an apartment block as her ‘drunk mum slept’.
The unattended toddler was playing on the windowsill while her mother was allegedly snoozing after having a boozy lunch.
The mum is said to have only woken up when police knocked on the door and told her that her daughter had been rushed in the intensive care unit in a critical condition.
Reports say the young girl was playing with her sister, four, on the balcony in their flat in the Ukrainian capital city, Kiev.
During a game, she climbed onto the windowsill and fell out of an open window.
She plummeted towards the ground and fell through branches of a tree below.
The branches softened her 60ft drop and the little girl survived but is fighting for her life.
The horror fall was witnessed by some passers-by who raced to help the child and called emergency services.
Meanwhile, the other toddler climbed onto the balcony windowsill to look where her little sibling had gone.
Seeing this, the terrified witnesses started shouting to her and, luckily, persuaded her to climb down the windowsill and go back in the flat.
The youngster was rushed into the intensive care unit with serious injuries and is fighting for her life.
Her mother is said she have only learned about the incident after police arrived at the scene and knocked on her door.
A man, who lives next door, said: “The police had to knock on the door for a long time before the mother opened it. She was drunk and sleepy.”
Speaking to the officers, the woman allegedly confessed that at the moment of the incident she was sleeping and her four little children were unattended, police report.
It is claimed the jobless single mother-of-four was often seen drunk by neighbours.
Social workers removed the other three children from her care and placed them into an orphanage after seeing their living conditions.
Police spokeswoman Oksana Poplavska said: “A criminal case on parental neglect was initiated against the mother.
“Her children were taken into an orphanage
Local social services will sue the woman to deprive her of parental rights.
“She faces up to five years in prison if found guilty.
“The investigation is ongoing.”
