Fire breaks out at BUTLINS

A WHOLE block of accommodation in Minehead’s Butlin’s is in flames as a fire ripped through the building, according to witnesses.

Witness Jean-Luc Howe said to Somerset Live that the fire was in the staff accommodation at the resort in Somerset around 3pm.

Two fire engines are the scene and Jean-Luc claimed a “whole block of accommodation was up in flames”.

Flames and smoke can be seen rising from the resort in pics from the scene.

Jean-Luc said: “Engines were arriving on site from about 3.10pm, fire was at its biggest at about 3.30pm.

Smoke was visible around the entire site, and staff in plain clothes were hushing guests away.”

Butlin’s claimed the fire was small.

It said on Twitter: “We are pleased to share that this was isolated to just one caravan.

Everyone is ok and none of guest caravans were affected.”

The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust said it had emergency vehicles at the scene.

A spokeswoman said: “No patients at the moment, SWASFT paramedic teams are there on standby.”
