An inquest into the death of Love Island’s Mike Thalassitis has revealed he took his own life after taking cocaine and alcohol.
A toxicology report also showed anti-depressant drug Fluxotine in his system.
Mike, 26, known affectionately as ‘Muggy’ during his time on the dating show in 2017, was found dead at a park near near his childhood home in Edmonton, North London on March 16.
The inquest heard how a black notebook was found close to Mike’s body.
Speaking at North London Coroner’s Court, PC Emma Clawson said: “I looked through the notebook it was a combination of a diary and letters and positive thoughts, At the back of the diary there were a number of notes addressed to his family.”
Senior coroner Andrew Walker said Mike, whose occupation was given as celebrity, had left notes to his family.
He said: “There were a number of notes left behind and messages in which Mr Thalassitis clearly set out his intention that his life should come to an end.”
The inquest heard that toxicology results showed there was cocaine, ethanol and paracetamol in his system at the time of his death.
A statement was also read out in court from the woman who found Mike.
She said: “At around 9.25pm I was jogging around Church Street recreational ground, however I know this to be Vladimir Park.
“A man was walking a dog so I changed my direction running along the tree line.
“Through the trees I saw a man, I looked again and I thought the man was floating.
“I looked up and saw the rope and the man was hanging.
“I didn’t know what to do and I called my friend who said I should call the police. I hung up the call to my friend and called the police to report what I found.
“I stayed on the phone speaking to the operator until I saw the two police officers enter the park. I briefly spoke to PC Emma Clawson. She told me to go home and she would call me. I did not approach the man or touch him.
“He was wearing a black jacket, black hat, black shoes.”
The former Chelmsford City footballer died just days after the death of his beloved grandmother. Mike had moved in with the 94-year-old gran to become her full time carer.
Mike’s death also came just two months after his best friend Danny Cutts passed away on Christmas Eve.
After finding fame on Love Island, Mike dated former TOWIE star Megan McKenna.
They broke up after a rollercoaster seven month relationship, and she opened up about their time together on Celebs Go Dating.
Megan revealed she was “in love” with Mike and burst into tears as she told dating agents Anna Williamson and Paul Carrick Brunson that she didn’t want to speak about him.
Mike also took part in Celebs Go Dating in 2018, alongside fellow stars like Made In Chelsea’s Sam Thompson and TOWIE’s Gemma Collins.
Many of Mike’s fellow stars took to Twitter to express their shock at his untimely death and pay tribute.
