Death of woman in her 20s in house fire being treated as suspicious

POLICE have launched an investigation into the “suspicious” death of a woman aged in her 20s whose body was found in a house fire.

Firefighters were called to the property in Grange Crescent, Gosport, Hampshire, at 8.52am on Tuesday where they discovered the woman’s body.

A Hampshire Police spokesman said the death was being treated as suspicious and added: “We are now investigating the circumstances of the woman’s death, in conjunction with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.

“Formal identification has not yet taken place. The woman’s next of kin have been informed that a body has been found and are being supported by specialist officers.”

Detective Inspector Toby Elcock said: “We are in the early stages of this investigation and urge anyone with information to contact us.

“Were you in the area at the time and did you see anyone acting suspiciously?

“There will be an ongoing police presence in the area.”
