SHOCKING footage shows a cruel nursery worker slapping and shaking four babies during nap time at a Florida daycare centre.
Katherine Weitz, 65, was arrested on child abuse charges relating to “over 30 incidents” after a manager discovered the disturbing video, police said.
The CCTV images appear to show Weitz hitting a baby in the face. She also appears to shake the tots as they slept at Dream City Academy.
According to WFTV, the matter came to light when an office manager grew suspicious about how the children were being treated.
They said they heard heard the toddlers crying and checked the surveillance footage.
Keith Walker, an officer with the Ormond Beach Police Department, detailed the footage in an interview with ABC affiliate WFTV on Wednesday.
He said: “There was shaking (and) a couple of kids being smacked during nap time.
“Some of the kids, she palmed the back of their heads with her hands and pushed them face forward in their cots.
We found over 30 incidents that could be considered child abuse to at least four different children.”
The suspect was hired as a full-time employee with the centre just days before the alleged abuse took place, sources told WFTV.
Police said she passed a background check.
Weitz was released on $30,000 (£23,500) bond on Wednesday evening.
She is due to appear in court on Tuesday, records show.
