A MAN who broke into his neighbour’s house and began undressing in a 12-year-old girl’s room was shot six times by her mum’s boyfriend, it was reported.
Daniel Oliver, 38, had recently become the new neighbour of the family in Louisville, Kentucky and broke into their home about 7am, local police say.
He has been charged with first-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault and heroin possession.
The girl’s mother, Tina Burton, said her daughter was in bed when she heard Oliver breaking into their home and beginning to undress.
Burton praised her daughter’s calmness and quick think saying “she was really smart”.
“She hid under the cover, turned her light down, turned her volume down on her phone to text me,” she told WDRB.
“When she peeked under the cover to see where he was at, she got up and ran away.
“She went to the back room. And I think that was really brave and smart of her.”
Oliver was only wearing his underwear and then went from the girl’s bedroom to the kitchen where he encountered Burton’s boyfriend, Ali Bracey.
“I told him to get out, and he didn’t want to move. And he growled at me,” Bracey said.
The pair began fighting and Bracey hit Oliver with a broom but began to be overwhelmed “due to the suspect’s size”, according to the arrest report.
Bracey yelled out for help and his partner brought him a gun from her bedroom after which he managed to break free and fired several rounds at the intruder.
The suspect was arrested and then taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say they found a small bag of heroin which he dropped when he took off his clothes.
He appeared in court in a wheelchair and it was reported that he has a lengthy criminal record.
