Boy, 6, dies after drowning in wave pool at Holiday water park

A LITTLE boy has died after drowning in a wave pool at a popular water park in Florida.

The six-year-old was spotted in the water before being rescued by lifeguards who battled in vain to save his life.

The tragedy happened at the Daytona Lagoon which was packed with holidaymakers on their summer holidays.

The boy’s nationality is not known.

According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, he was found underwater in the wave pool shortly before 1pm and given CPR.

Daytona Beach Fire Department spokeswoman, Sasha Staton, said paramedics continued to work on reviving him while on the way to Halifax Health Medical Centre but he could not be saved.

In a statement park manager Tyler Currie said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family right now.

“This is a tragedy that leaves us all with heavy hearts.”
