An 11-year-old boy who was struck by a car in south east London on Saturday has died in hospital today.
Josh Osborne was rushed to hospital after he was hit by the vehicle in Orpington.
He was treated at the scene before being taken to an east London hospital.
He died in the early hours of today despite the efforts of paramedics and doctors.
According to police, the car involved did not initially stop at the scene but came to a halt a short distance away.
The driver – a 73-year-old man – was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and making off from the scene of an accident, Scotland Yard said in a statement.
He has been released under investigation
On the Orpington Gossip Facebook page there have been dozens of tributes to the schoolboy.
One person wrote: “Since I heard about this it has troubled me for days, it could have been anyone’s child and so absolutely heartbreaking, I cannot imagine the pain his family must be in, devastating beyond words that something like this has happened”.
Bouquets of flowers, cuddly toys and candles have been placed near the scene where Josh was hit by the vehicle.
