The bleeding man was discovered in Zaragoza, northern Spain, and his organ was reportedly in a plastic bag at home
A man prompted a bizarre police operation when he was found wandering the streets after amputating his own penis.
The missing organ was being carried in a plastic bag, according to reports in Spain.
The man, aged 33, was discovered covered in blood in Zaragoza, the capital of northeastern Spain’s Aragon region.
He told police he had amputated his own penis and had just left his house.
The events took place in a central area of the city that links the Gran Vía and Paseo Fernando el Católico.
Officers in a patrol car heard him crying for help and he was rushed by ambulance to the Hospital Miguel Servet.
He revealed his severed private part was still in his home and the officers could go there to collect it.
Police managed to find it in the bag and rushed it back to the hospital.
It is not known if doctors managed to reattach his penis or his general condition as further details are being kept private.
An investigation has opened to find out exactly what happened and if there may be third parties involved in the case.
The man himself is insisting he did the amputation himself so psychiatrists believe it might have been self-harm or related to drug-taking.
Health chiefs have declined to provide more details.
