An unforgettable part of British childhood, Birds Eye are bringing back their iconic Findus Crispy Pancakes – just in time for Pancake Day
When it comes to our most nostalgic childhood meals, smiley faces, alphabetti spaghetti, Angel Delight and Findus crispy pancakes are right up there in terms of our top retro meals.
So just in time for Pancake day, Birds Eye (formerly known as Findus) has decided its bringing back the classic Friday night dinner staple, over forty years since the frozen food staple first launched.
Appearing in the frozen ready meal aisle of Sainsbury’s from now, a pack of four will set you back £1.75.
But there’s bad news for anyone who was partial to the beef pancake, as it seems the British favourite has been pushed aside as part of a more premium makeover.
Coming in three different flavours: Mozzarella, Tomato & Mozzarella, Ham & Mozzarella, the latest crispy pancake incarnations feature a more golden and crispy breadcrumb crust and include more delicious filling made from premium ingredients such as fresh tomato and mozzarella.
However if you want nothing other than the nostalgic minced beef and onion flavour, we have spotted Tesco somehow still selling them in the old style packaging for a £1 a pack …
Alessandro Solazzi, Marketing Manager at Birds Eye, said: “Findus Crispy Pancakes were an unforgettable part of childhood for many people living in the 70s, 80s and even early 90s. We want modern families to enjoy the same memorable mealtime moments.
The new Birds Eye Crispy Pancakes still have the iconic crunch of the breadcrumb coating but thanks to new recipes and extra filling they are oozing with delicious flavour. We’re so confident in the new taste that we are putting our money where our mouth is and allowing customers to claim their money back if they disagree.”
And while we’ll always associate them more with a Friday night dinner than pancake day, we’d never say no to reliving a Friday night in as our seven year old self, with some Crispy pancakes for dinner before Top of the Pops.
